Sail Chernobyl
Last year Sail Chernobyl set off from Cork Harbour on
their long voyage to circumnavigate the globe. The boat is 50ft long
and is the size of an average kitchen. It's name is "The Golden
Apple".The crew are Rory, Andrew, Rebecca and Tony.
Simon was the skipper until the untimely passing of their father Hugh Coveney.(TD)
Simon stayed behind to stand for his father's seat in the Dáil. They
are in Thialand at the moment. Then they will set off for their the 1,000 mile
journey to Sri Lanka.
From there they will go through the Suez canall in Egypt into the Mediterranian, and from there back to Cork Habour. They plan to arrive in May and the Cork people will have a huge welcome home party.
Our Visit to Crosshaven
The Golden Apple sailed into Crosshaven on Saturday, May 15th.
Schools were invited to visit Crosshaven and meet the Coveney family the following
Monday.
We went along and had a great day.
Click on the sailboat for some photographs and thoughts about
the day.
Our Fundraising Efforts
The Irish Times and the Offaly Express did articles on the Sail Chernobyl
Voyage.
We were in contact with the Coveneys over the internet .And our school took
part in trying to raise money for the children of Chernobyl. We decided to
do a penalty shoot out and the middle classes did a fancy dress skipathon.
The Offaly Express got photos and wrote a page about our fundraising.
We were delighted with our success and delighted with the support from our
family and friends.
Here are some photographs of our Penalty shoot out and Skipathon.
