Mooney Goes Wild in Lumcloon

We are delighted that our school recently won a prize in the RTÉ schools web site competition, run in association with Dúchas Heritage Ireland. We look forward to using the digital camera and binoculars but the highlight of winning the competition was the visit of Derek Mooney and Éanna Ní Lamhna to our school.
The
came to talk to us about our project which was on Bogs. The judges
were looking for schools who had concentrated on their local environment.
We looked at bog formation, local wildlife and plant life. We visited
Blackwater Bog Rail Tour and invited speakers form Lough Boora Parkland
to our school.
On their visit to our school Derek and Éanna spoke to the sixth
class. Derek arrived before Éanna and spoke to the whole school
and invited questions from the students.
When Éanna arrived Derek recorded the comments of the sixth class and also interviewed Mrs. Kerin, Mrs. Doolan and Mr. Gilligan.
Later as the weather was so good we went outside for photographs. Parents who were at the school to pick up children helped in setting up the classes for the photographs and later helped clean up. It was well after three when Derek and Éanna left and the bus drivers waited patiently for the children while they said their good-byes.
It was a great day. Many thanks to Derek and Éanna for visiting our school.
