Lumcloon National School

Our school was built in 1964. It is situated between Cloghan and Kilcormac.

We have four teachers in our school, Mrs. Doolan, Mr. Gilligan, Miss Kerin and Mrs. Nolan.

Carina Egan is our Special Needs Assistant and Carmel Hanniffy is our School Secretary.

The school was refurbished in 2005 and the new building was officially opened on May 6th by An Taoiseach, Brian Cowen T.D., then Minister of Finance and Dr. Colm O'Reilly, Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois.

Our principal, Mrs Doolan, teaches Fourth, Fifth and Sixth classes. Mr. Gilligan teaches First, Second and Third classes. Ms. Kerin teaches Senior and Junior Infants and Mrs. Nolan is our Learning Support Teacher.

The Silver River is right beside the school and it is said to be a very good river for fishing.

Our school is a mixed school. We take part in a lot of competitions. We have a good football team and we hope to do well this year. We play in the 11 a side.

Lumcloon National School replaced Bun National School which was opened in 1885.

Our school originally had two classrooms.

Children from Lumcloon, Bun and Derrycarney attended Lumcloon National School. In 1976 a neighbouring school in Leamore in the parish of Ferbane was amalgamated with Lumcloon National School and the children from that school came to Lumcloon.

A third teacher started working in Lumcloon in 1992 and a small pre-fab was built to the left of the school.

Another teacher was appointed in 2003 so we then got two much larger pre-fabs which we used until the new classrooms were ready in 2005.
