Information for Teachers
This is a collaborative creative writing project, co-ordinated by Lumcloon
N.S. (http://www.lumcloon.net) for Netdays '99. We are inviting schools to become
involved with this project as a means of using the Internet to foster communication
and co-operation between classes. The aim of this venture is to produce an e-book
chronicling the adventures of an imaginary Irish family, the Carrolls. All the
biographical details needed to participate in the project are provided on this
section of our school website.
Teachers are asked to introduce their class to the Carrolls (Family details,
geography of their area, school information etc.). If they are interested in
becoming involved in writing a story about this family, they must then register
their class with Lumcloon N.S. via e-mail before October 31st. They will be
given a "Trigger" (a story title, a starting line or a concept). These
triggers will be broad and open to interpretation by the class involved.
The class may then use the "Trigger" as a means of producing a story
for inclusion in the e-book. The stories produced can be funny, scary, adventure
- whatever the class wishes. Ideally each story should be between 500 and 1000
words in length, with maps, illustrations etc. Some teachers may invite their
classes to work in groups on various parts of the story. Alternatively, each
child could work individually, with the best story being chosen by the class
for inclusion in the project. Attention must be paid to details provided on
our website in order to preserve the common thread in the stories. Artwork,
maps etc. can be emailed as attachments.
In the week before Netdays, each school will be asked to confirm inclusion
in the project. They will then be given the names and email addresses of the
other schools taking part. It will then be up to each class teacher to take
responsibility for emailing the work produced by his/her class to all the other
participating schools. This can be done at any time during Netdays week, so
ensuring an ongoing stream of work arriving in the participating schools during
this week.
The total work submitted will be posted on the Lumcloon N.S. website as an
e-book and each participating class will be accredited.
