Here is the story written in groups by Fifth and Sixth classes in our own school, Lumcloon N.S.

"Oisín's Big Day Out".

As soon as the twins had made the final arrangements for the Aces meeting, they heard a loud scream. Oisín, the wailing express.

"Shhaaaunna! Get Oisín from his cot. I am trying to organize the dinner," shouted John hungrily from the kitchen. "Aaah, Dad!" begged Shauna desperately but when John shot her a sharp glance that cut her short, she could just whimper an agreement.

Shauna tramped up the hall to get Óisín. Just then, the doorbell rang. It was Clíona. "Eavesdropper alert, AGAIN!" grumbled the twins. They just managed to get out the back door in time. Shauna had overheard their plans to go to Kildorka. "Shauna, will you and Clíona bring Oisín for a walk?" asked Teresa in a voice that made the statement more of an order than a question." "All right, come on Oisín, we're going for an adventure," they whispered as Shauna threw Oisín into the pram. Oisín squealed as usual. "Stop, one more sound, and Clíona and I will go on our own," roared Shauna as she shoved a jam and crisp sandwich into his mouth.

The pair started discussing the new Boyzone song which all seemed like gobbledygook to Oisín. (Although actually Boyzone sound like that to a lot of people.) Óisin had started whimpering "Soolie", (that's "soother" to you and me) but when the girls went looking for it they decided that he must have lost it further back down the road.

The girls ran inside and shouted at Teresa "We followed the twins to Kildoroka and then we walked away a little and when we turned around Oisín was gone and…." Teresa could not make head nor tail of their squealing and replied "Slow down - you're talking in riddles!" Eventually the terrified admission came out. Teresa wasted no time and in less than twenty seconds had dialed 999.They all got into the car and at 100mph flew over the mill road. In the mean time Óisín was happy as a mouse in a cheese factory, following his butterfly, home unknown to anyone. He fell asleep in the kennel with Bart. By now, the Aces' meeting had ended and the twins were hurrying home for tea. When they got home they were puzzled to see no one there.

They went into the sitting room and started watching TV.Suddenly, they heard a sound outside. The two of them went to investigate. It was Bart barking and they were more than surprised to find a visitor in the kennel - Oisín! They brought him inside and put him sitting next to the fire.

Just then, Catríona remembered she left her schoolbag in Kildorka. She hurried off on her bike, visions of a soaked Busy at Math's 5 flooding her mind. When she saw a fire engine and an ambulance, she knew something unusual was going on. In front of her she saw a thin guard and sprinted up to him to ask what happened.

"Dunno, apparently some child has fallen down a well shaft - they found a soother beside it .Ocean or something is his name. The name seemed vaguely familiar but she couldn't think of how. Suddenly she nearly fell off her bike as the name hit her (like a brick breaking the speed limit!) HE MEANT ÓISIN.

She flew back to the house and stuttered as she told Ciaran to go back and ask the Garda the burning question "Did he mean Oisín and if so break the good news that Oisín is safe and sound at home. "

Cíarán crossed the road going hell for leather, his heart in his mouth. Shortly, a very out-of-breath Ciarán arrived outside the woods. He noticed "GARDA DO NOT CROSS" tape around the woods and a burly guard with his arms crossed and the radio on his pocket fizzing. "Is. the. child. Oisín. Carroll?" panted Ciarán running up to him. " I say, youngster, this is a private matter, the family are grieving in there, y'know" he said in a Cork/English accent.

"Answer me- is it Oisín Carroll? ", he screamed impatiently getting his breath back. "Yes, no need to make a song and dance about it y'know". "Let me in there, you gotta," begged a bewildered brother as he tried to give the sturdy guard a rugby tackle to get into the wood. The deafening wail of Shauna and Clíona made its way towards them.

"Ciarán!" the girls wailed again and then started telling the story of Oisín's Big (last?) Day Out, filling in all the voids in Cíarán's version of the events of the day. He stopped them when they got to the bit about him falling down the well shaft because:

1. He couldn't bear the wailing,

2. What they had to say was untrue,

3. Catríona still hadn't recovered her Math's book.

"STOP!" ordered Cíarán" Oisín is at home safe!" so loud that a flock of birds got scared and flew out of the tree. Suddenly, a shout of excitement erupted as the news broke that Oisín was safe.

Teresa didn't know whether to murder the two girls or to hug them - but luckily for them she chose option B, which meant that they survived to eavesdrop on the Aces for another day!
