Na Fianna
Click here to listen to an introduction to this Legend.The Fianna were a great and strong army who fought for the High King of Ireland and after Fionn MacCumhaill, another famous Irish hero, slayed the Goblin of Tara he was leader.
During the Winter the Fianna stayed in the forts of the high kings nobles and during Summer they hunted in the forests. Among its famous members were Fionn's son Oisín and Oisín's son Oscar. The Fianna's motto was
"Goodness in our hearts, strength in our limbs and truth on our lips."
To
become a member a person must have been able to:

Recite all the poems from 12 different poetry books from memory,

Pluck a thorn from his foot while running,
-
Run under a branch as high as his knee
-
Jump over one as high as himself without changing speed
-
Run so lightly and quickly that he would not break a dry twig under his feet,
-
Defend himself from the spears of 9 warriors
School will close for the Easter Break on 26th March 2010 which will be the final day of the school term.
All schools will re-open on 12th April 2010.
The dates for Confession, Confirmation and Commuinion 2010 are as follows:
Confirmation - May 14th
Communion - May 22nd
Congratulations to Orla Kenny who came first in Offaly in her category in the INTO/EBS Handwriting Competition and to Nathan Cleary who was joint winner in his category in the same competition.
