Artefacts We Brought to School

In our History books looked at how things have changed over time. We brought some old objects from home to school and talked about them.

Here are some of the things we brought to school

1971 Football Final Programme

It was the first time for my Dad to go an All Ireland Football Final. It was the first time for Offaly to win. It was 36 years ago. My dad was only 20. There were 15 players on the team. It was in 1971. My aunt and uncle were there too with my Dad.

Horseshoe

I got it of Granny Cáit.
It was in her back garden.
I asked her for a loan of it for school. It was hanging on the wall.

The person in the picture is my dad when he was very young.
Some of the money is Irish and some is English. The small cross was my mums. The ring was also my mums. The stamp is two years old.

Ink bottle

This is my granddads ink holder. They used it in school and at home. You use a quill to write with it. Grandma and Granddad found it in their old house when they were cleaning it out for an Halloween surprise a week before Halloween then at Halloween day and then granddad told me what happened that day.

Old Iron

This is an old time iron you used in 1699 to 1899. In the middle of the iron is a big iron block and you put it in the fire and you heat  it up and put it back in the iron and it will iron your clothes.

Cookery Award

This is a trophy that my mammy won in a cooking competition in secondary school. She came first in the cooking competition. She won this trophy twenty years ago.

Frying pan

This pan came from my nanny Keegan. It’s a very old pan.  She used it a very long time ago.  She does not use it any more because it is too old and black now. It is kept safe.

Evelyn

Tea caddy

This is a very old tin from an Irish breakfast shop called Bewleys.  I got this from my aunty. She was on a call and an old lady gave this to her and she gave it to my Mammy. My Aunty lived with us and she gave it to us. Well I was not born because it was in the year 1996.

This book belonged to my grandfather when he was in school, I think it’s from the year 1965. I got it from my mom I also have coins from around 1965.
